Berg Lake Trail Reopens in Mount Robson Park—and Discover Parks Ambassadors will be There All Summer

After years of closure and careful reconstruction, one of British Columbia’s most iconic backcountry trails is ready to welcome hikers once again—and BC Parks Foundation’s Discover Parks Ambassadors will be there to help celebrate.

In July 2021, catastrophic flooding washed out bridges, submerged campsites, and forced emergency evacuations along the Berg Lake Trail in Mount Robson Provincial Park. The trail was closed for a major, multi-year rebuild. This summer marks a triumphant milestone: the second phase of reconstruction is complete, and the trail will officially open on June 26.

To honour this remarkable comeback, BC Parks is hosting a community celebration on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Berg Lake Trailhead Parking Lot. From 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, visitors can enjoy live music, family-friendly activities, interpretive presentations, and more.

And, for the first time ever, Discover Parks Ambassadors will be stationed at Mount Robson all summer long—joining the festivities and offering inspiring programs throughout the season.

Last summer, Bennett and Brynn attended Parks Day in Mount Robson—and the dream to return for a full season was born. This year, thanks to you, our generous community of support, it’s a reality!

“We’re so excited to be part of this historic reopening,” says Jared, a new Discover Parks Ambassador this year who will be stationed at Mt. Robson Park all summer. “Mount Robson is one of those places that just stops you in your tracks. Being here this summer—meeting people, sharing stories, and helping folks connect more deeply with the park—it’s a dream.”

All season long, Ambassadors will offer free, engaging, family-friendly programming, including nature walks, interactive evening talks, and Jerry’s Rangers activities for kids

Whether you’re joining a trail talk about glacial melt, laughing through a round of Park Jeopardy, or watching a child learn how to stay safe in bear country, the Ambassadors are here to spark connection—to nature, to knowledge, and to each other.

“We’re also here to help build awareness,” adds Jared. “From providing local knowledge and tips, encouraging responsible recreation, and sharing how global warming contributed to the 2021 flooding, our goal is to inspire curiosity, enjoyment, and care for these incredible places.”

A Trail—and a Team—Worth Celebrating

“Beyond just being an amazing logistical achievement,” says Jared, “the reopening of the Berg Lake Trail is a symbol of resilience. It shows what’s possible when communities, experts, and park lovers work together.”

From climate scientists and engineers to rangers and recreationists, countless hands and hearts made this moment possible. We’re proud to be there to celebrate the Berg Lake Trail reopening.

We are equally proud to support enhancement projects like this one across BC that share the same spirit of collaboration and care. Donors and partners to BC Parks Foundation help fund upgrades that make parks safer, more accessible, and more inspiring for everyone.

Other recent projects include accessibility improvements at Kokanee Creek, Rathtrevor Beach, and Champion Lakes, and new backcountry toilets and solar installations at Elfin Lakes to ensure reliable shelter lighting in Garibaldi Park. We’ve also supported bridge rebuilds in Golden Ears and interpretive signage and campsite upgrades in Wells Gray and Mount Robson.
