Woodland Waterfront On Galiano Is Now Protected
April 10, 2024
Congratulations! Beautiful Woodland Waterfront On Galiano Is Now Protected Through Your Support!
The park support community strikes again! Thanks to your generosity and vision, a waterfront parcel with rare Garry oak woodlands is now protected. This conservation gem resides within the Coastal Douglas-fir Biogeoclimatic Zone-- the most endangered ecosystem in BC.
It came to our attention through local nature enthusiasts, who knew it was listed under the Sensitive Ecosystem Inventory for Galiano Island (as pictured below within the grey border). The Woodlands ecosystem boasts a diverse mix of Garry oak, Arbutus, and Douglas-fir. There are numerous wildlife species typically associated with this ecosystem.

We are happy to have worked with the good people at the Galiano Conservancy Association on this purchase. They have done a remarkable job of preserving many areas across the island. They brought local funding to this purchase and will be caring for the new protected area as part of their network of conserved areas on the Island.
Their support, combined with yours, has made preserving the natural beauty and habitat of this unique landscape possible. Every month, more land is preserved and more animals are safeguarded, all thanks to your incredible goodwill. Fabulous!
